A programme of talks celebrating the life, history, and character of the Tywi Valley

Talking about the Tywi is a new community-led series created by the Rhandirmwyn & District Community Association. Its purpose is simple but ambitious: to explore the Tywi Valley in all its richness—its stories, its landscapes, its people, and the forces that have shaped it across centuries.
The Tywi is more than a river. It is a thread that binds together communities, histories, and identities. Through this programme, we aim to bring those threads to life by inviting experts, storytellers, and local voices to share their knowledge and passion. Each talk opens a window onto a different facet of the valley, helping us understand not only where we live, but how this place came to be.
Why this programme matters
Talking about the Tywi is designed to:
- Celebrate local heritage by drawing on the expertise of archaeologists, historians, ecologists, artists, and long-time residents.
- Strengthen community connection through shared learning and conversation in welcoming, informal settings.
- Deepen our sense of place by uncovering the stories—ancient and modern—that shape the valley’s identity.
- Inspire curiosity about the landscapes, cultures, and people that make the Tywi Valley unique.
Looking ahead
As the programme grows, we’ll explore a wide range of themes: from medieval settlement to local folklore, from biodiversity to industrial heritage, from farming traditions to the creative life of the valley today.
Each talk is an invitation to learn, reflect, and take pride in the place we call home.
Whether you’re a lifelong resident, newly arrived, or simply curious about this remarkable corner of Wales, Talking about the Tywi offers a warm welcome and a chance to see the valley with fresh eyes.
