Seion is a Welsh Baptist Chapel built in 1827. Over the years it was an extremely active place, but in recent years the members have dwindled; today, regular attendants is about 6. However this is boosted during the holiday season when friends and ex-pats visit the old homes. Services are held bilingually.
Buried in the graveyard is the Reverend Dr. I D E Thomas. He is known to the nation for his contributions to the BBC ‘Letters from America’. Born in Rhandirmwyn (having lived as a young child with family in both Nantgwyn (now part of Coleg Elidyr and Fron Goch), he was a well-known and well respected minister throughout Wales, and then in California. His family are still part of the locality.
In the pulpit stands a National Eisteddfod ‘Chair’. It was donated by the family of a local bard – J.R. Thomas of Brynglas. A second chair was also kindly donated to the Church.
Services are bilingual, and are held once a month at 2pm. Contact Valmai for more information on 01550 760 337.
