As part of the RDCA’s “Talking about the Tywi” programme, we are very pleased to have Professor Steve Ormerod, Professor of Ecology/Water Research Institute at the Cardiff School of Biosciences, presenting a talk about the the Llyn Brianne Observatory in central Wales is one of the longest-running catchment projects anywhere in the world. For more than three decades, the Observatory has been a key source of evidence and policy advice on river ecosystems.
Beyond academia, Professor Ormerod is actively involved in the practical application of ecological science. He serves as Vice President of the RSPB, Europe’s largest wildlife conservation charity, and is Independent Chair of the Wales Beaver Forum (Afancod Fforwm Cymru). He also recently completed a seven-and-a-half-year term as Deputy Chairman of Natural Resources Wales, the Welsh Government’s largest sponsored body, and served as a member of the UK’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee. His current public service roles also include membership of the Bank of England’s Banknote Expert Advisory Panel, where he advises on the use of wildlife imagery on UK banknotes.
