Talking about the Tywi: Take a closer look

On tne evening of 11 June 2026, Isabel Macho and Laura Moss delivered an outstanding and inspiring talk last night, offering a clear, engaging, and deeply practical insight into the state of nature in Carmarthenshire and the wider Welsh landscape. Their presentation struck a perfect balance between expert knowledge and accessible guidance, making complex environmental issues feel understandable, relevant, and—most importantly—actionable for everyone in the room.

Both speakers brought genuine passion and clarity to the discussion, highlighting not only the challenges facing local biodiversity but also the many opportunities for communities and individuals to get involved. The breadth of resources they shared was exceptional, ranging from national reports such as the Wales State of Nature Report 2023 to hands‑on local initiatives including the Adopt a Tributary project, the Carmarthenshire Meadows Group, and the Your Wild Patch scheme. Their emphasis on practical citizen engagement—whether recording wildlife sightings, supporting meadow restoration, or simply taking small everyday actions—left attendees feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed.

The talk also showcased the impressive network of organisations working across Carmarthenshire and Wales, from Natural Resources Wales to the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, Tir Natur, and the Carbon Community. Isabel and Laura made it clear that there is a place for everyone, regardless of experience, time, or background, and that even modest contributions can help strengthen the resilience of our ecosystems.

Feedback from attendees was universally positive. Many commented on how refreshing it was to hear such constructive, hopeful messaging about biodiversity—rooted in evidence, yet focused on solutions. The speakers’ enthusiasm was infectious, and their willingness to share links, tools, and next steps has already sparked interest in local volunteering and wildlife recording.

In short, Isabel and Laura delivered a highly informative, motivating, and community‑minded session that left people better informed and genuinely inspired to take a closer look at the nature on their doorstep. A huge thank‑you to both for their time, expertise, and dedication.
