Taking about the Tywi: RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas

The RDCA’s “Talking about the Tywi” programme delivered another well‑received evening on Thursday 16 April 2026, as community members gathered at the Royal Oak, Rhandirmwyn, to hear Jonathan Cryer from the RSPB present an engaging and wide‑ranging talk on the origins, history, and ongoing projects shaping the Gwenffrwd Dinas reserve.

Jonathan guided the audience through the reserve’s origins,  the key persons who helped establish the reserve, the various changes over the decades, the species that the RSPB views as crucial inhabitants, and the evolving conservation and community initiatives now underway. Attendees praised the clarity of the narrative and the way the talk connected past and present, giving a fuller sense of how the valley and reserve continues to change.

These talks remain free community events, with speakers generously volunteering their time to help share knowledge about the Tywi valley — its landscapes, its stories, and the people who sustain it.

The RDCA extends its warm thanks to Jonathan and the RSPB for giving their time so generously.
